Anastasia Brow Genius Kit Review/Tutorial

Ahhhh, here it is.  The gorgeous Anastasia Brow Genius Kit.  Highly revered by beauty bloggers and makeup artists alike, this was my first big splurge of the season.

Here's my review of this kit.

What's it made of?
This brow kit comes with a clear, waterproof gel, loose brow powder, and a spoolie/applicator brush combo.

Mine is in the shade Medium Brown, so it's a bit lighter than the Brunette shade.  I'd say this is a good shade for light to medium brunettes, and the Brunette shade, Anastasia's darker one, is good for those with dark brown to black hair.  Though, it all depends on how bold you like your brows to be.

This kit WILL make your brows thick, dark, and bold, so if that's not your cup of tea, I'd say this isn't the kit for you.

How's the quality?
Anastasia is a high end brand, and its products absolutely are high quality.  The waterproof gel is just that-- waterproof --and will NOT budge in the slightest.  The powder is quite highly pigmented, very dark and finely milled.  It's incredibly easy to mix with the gel, but make sure to work quickly!  The gel hardens quite fast, so a quick application is best.  It goes on smooth, clings to the natural hairs of your brows, and won't budge once it's in place.  The best way to remove this (both from the brows and the applicator) is with waterproof eye makeup remover.  I use Neutrogena's Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover.  ($5.99, Ulta)

What's the verdict?
This kit is perfect for me, or anyone who loves bold, thick, defined brows.  It's rather simple to use, and once you get the hang of it, pretty foolproof!  I'd say if you're in the market for a new brow kit, and you feel like splurging, Anastasia Brow Genius Kit is a pretty good one to pick up.

Now for the fun bit.  Here's my tutorial!

Alrighty, before we begin, make sure your brows are tweezed or waxed or shaped the way you like them.

First step, take the spoolie brush and groom through your brows, brushing the hairs into place.

Get out your tube of the brow gel.

It'll look a little something like this on the back of your hand.

Next, grab the small bottle of loose brow powder.

Give it a couple of shakes on top of the small dab of gel.

Mix it up with the small applicator brush.  It'll be a bit thick, kind of like the consistency of chocolate icing.

Next, dip your brush into the gel mixture and begin to draw a thin line along the underside of your brow, following its arch.

Repeat for the top half, so it looks like you've outlined your brow.

Start filling in the middle and lightly filling in the front ends of your brow.  This is the face of pure concentration.

Hey, looking good.

Now repeat these steps for the opposite brow.

And, boom.  Look at you.  Full, defined brows are easier than they're made out to be!  I really love using this product.  Killer brows are always a great feeling.  Try it for yourself if you like!  Until then,

xxoo,
Alexis

Ulta/Target Spring Haul

This past week, I stopped into Ulta Beauty and Target and picked up a few things, so I thought I'd post them all in a March/April Spring haul!

Left to Right: Nyx Butter Gloss in Raspberry Tart, it's a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product, CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in 325- Black Diamond, eos Lip Balm in Honeysuckle and Tangerine, realTechniques Expert Face Brush, Nyx Lipliner in Pinky, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Genius Kit in Medium Brown.

First up: Anastasia Brow Genius Kit.

Top Photo: Brow Genius Kit in packaging.
Bottom Photo: Anastasia Brow Wiz Loose Powder, Brow Genius Clear Waterproofing Gel, Applicator Brush.

I have mentioned this product in my eyebrow tutorial blog post before, and a full review and tutorial are coming!  But I must talk about this, because it is the single best brow kit I've ever used.  I've heard a lot of hype about this kit, and I am so happy I bought into it.  Like I said, a full review and tutorial is coming because I just can't get enough of this!  Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Genius Kit in Medium Brown, $24, Ulta.

Next: eos Lip Balms
Left to Right: Honeysuckle, Tangerine

I'm definitely on the eos bandwagon at this point.  I've already bought the Raspberry Pomegranate and Summer Fruit flavors in the past, and when I saw there were new (at least new to me) scents, I had to jump on them.  They're deeply moisturizing and smell amazing!  A great buy.  Tangerine, $3.29, evolutionofsmooth.com. Honeysuckle, $2.99, Target Stores.

Nyx Lipliner:
Nyx Lipliner in Pinky.

I've been in desperate need of a lipliner to match my MAC Candy-Yum-Yum lipstick since I bought, and this is the perfect match!  A phenomenal deal, too.  All the Nyx products at Ulta this week were buy one get one 50% off, so I snagged this baby pretty quickly.  Nyx Lipliner in Pinky, $3.49, Ulta.

Nyx Butter Gloss:
Nyx Butter Gloss in Raspberry Tart.

This gloss is my ultimate favorite.  Smooth, creamy, long-wearing, and opaque, it comes in a huge range of colors that are universally flattering.  It's so easy to wear and I just can't get enough of it.  I also own this gloss in Apple Strudel, a pretty, soft coral, and I just love it.  Nyx Butter Gloss, $4.99, Ulta.

RealTechniques Brush:
RealTechniques Expert Face Brush

I've heard a lot of fantastic reviews about these brushes, and I figured since my old face brush was getting rather old and worn down, it was time to try a new one.  I came across this brush in Ulta and it just looked too good to resist.  It's got a beautiful, slim design and is very easy to use, with soft bristles and a sleek handle.  So far, I really like how this brush applies my foundation.  Quite happy I picked it up!  RealTechniques Expert Face Brush, $8.99, Ulta.

Covergirl Nail Gloss:

Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in 325 Black Diamond.

Who doesn't need a good black nail polish in their repertoire?  It's a staple for a sharp, edgy look.  Clean lines and dark colors are always chic, and this polish is just a perfect accent to any outfit.  I bought this in the store when it was on sale for only $1.41.  I absolutely couldn't pass it up!  It's also got great color payoff and a high gloss finish, and in the photo, I hadn't even used a top coat.  Great buy!   Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in 325 Black Diamond, $3.84, Target.

it's a 10:
it's a 10 miracle leave-in product.

I got this small sample as a free gift at Ulta, and the bottle tells me it will heal all my hair concerns.  We'll see how it goes!  4.0 oz it's a 10 miracle leave-in product, $18, Ulta.

Target T-Shirt Dress:
Mossimo Junior's T-Shirt Dress in Black, size XS.

I purchased this adorable staple piece at Target.  It's a super-soft cotton tee dress, and it's just the right amount of comfortable and flowy for Spring and Summer.  Easy to dress up with heels and pearls or down with flat boots and a sweater.  A great staple black dress!  Mossimo Junior's T-Shirt Dress in Black, size XS, $19.99, Target.

That's it for my haul!  Expect a Brow Genius tutorial coming soon!
Until then,

xxoo,
Alexis

Full Eyebrow Tutorial

Hey there!

Today I'm going to be showing you guys a quick and easy everyday eyebrow tutorial that I've been using lately.  Full brows are a trend right now, but I've always had very full, thick eyebrows.  When they're waxed and tweezed just the way I like them, it's phenomenal.  Otherwise, well... they can be a bit of a mess.  But whether you like full brows, thin brows, or completely natural brows, go with whatever you like best!  It's a great feeling when your eyebrows make you feel confident.

This is the routine I use to keep my brow game a 10.

First, I keep them tweezed in between waxes, just to keep any strays away.  This helps give you a better guide when filling in your brows.

I simply take an Avon eyebrow pencil in Brown with a small spoolie on the end to begin.

Then, I begin grooming my brows with the spoolie.  Its fibers are very thick and coarse and it's great for taming the wiry hairs of my brows.

After they're shaped to my liking, I go in with the (freshly sharpened!) pencil.  It's important to keep the pencil sharp, as a blunt tip will make precision much more difficult.   I line the underside of my brow, middle first, and outline the shape of my eyebrow.  Then I do the same on the top, and lightly fill in the center.

Next, I take to the sparser hairs at the front of my eyebrow.  I don't like to darken this as much as I do the center and ends, because it creates an unnatural look on me.  So I lightly brush the pencil in hairlike strokes up and down the front end of my brow.

Here's the cute little spoolie again!  I like to comb through the product in my eyebrow lightly to make sure everything is even.

Then, I like to reshape the fronts of my brows to keep my arch visible and sharp.

Oh, wow.  That's a huge difference.  Time to fill in the other!  Just repeat the same steps.

Much better!  The eyebrows are filled, full, and shaped!

And there you have it!  Easy, full brows.  Great for a bold statement or a great look for every day.  Check out my finished makeup look:

And on the topic of brows, I just invested in an Anastasia Brow Genius Kit!

Brow Genius Kit in Medium Brown, $24, Ulta.

There will be a full review with swatches coming in the next few days, I'm so excited to use it!

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial!  Until next time,

Alexis
